Your Next Steps

You're at a crossroads in your career!

It's worth investing time and energy into finding work that will be a better fit for you.

Work that feels good! Not just work that isn't teaching.

Your next step is to figure out what you want to do instead.*

*If you're miserable and work is having a negative impact on your health and well-being, your next step is to take the quickest exit possible. Consider a bridge job ("for now" work) or a temp job as an initial transition away from the classroom. It probably won't be your forever job and that's ok.

How to figure out what's next

Figuring out what to do instead of teaching is often where teachers get stuck.

It feels almost impossible to imagine doing something else, especially if teaching is all you've ever known.

You don't know what other types of work you would enjoy or be qualified to do.

1. Reflect on who you are, what's important to you, and what you have to offer.

When's the last time you took stock of your strengths, skills, values, and what brings you joy?

The more self-aware you are, the more likely you are to find work that's a good fit for where you're at in your life right now.

2. Explore abundant career possibilities beyond the classroom. Whether you believe it or not, you have many choices of what else you can do for work!

Don't pigeon-hole yourself.

Discover and learn more about careers you've never considered or even heard of.

**Do NOT aimlessly scroll job postings. You'll end up wasting your time going down a giant, discouraging rabbit hole and reemerge just as confused as when you started.

**Do NOT worry about your resume yet. A good resume is targeted to the specific position or field you want to pursue. You need to know what you want before you can create it.

To Sum It Up...

Your first step is to figure out what you want for the next chapter of your career (before jumping into the job search).

The process of figuring out what's next can be a joyful, eye-opening, clarifying, confidence-building, and motivating journey.

I'd love to support you in your career transition journey!
